Hello! Original japanese kamados have rough stucco finish Black earthenware clay on the inside & usually have japanese handwriting symbols on the dome. A 15" grill is a medium size & 18" grill is a large kamado. They spray paint very well, exterior only, by using hi temp BBQ black. We sell all interior parts, there is a schematic of parts in this website to refer to.

I have a japanese kamado bought in Kobe in !970's I use it quit often. Replaced the metal parts many years age and it is in as new condition. I'm going to repaint soon to freshen up it's look.I paid $35.00 for it new and shipped it hone with my household items. I still have one of the free gaskets.

Dad has a kamado grill. He acquired it when he was in the service in Japan in 1968 and then had it shipped home to US. Was Imperial the only manufacturer of the grills at that time in Japan. I don't see a mfg. label or sticker on it. But there is an embedded stamp "made in Japan" on it. It is earthenware with black interior. He has taken excellent care of it, no cracks or breaks anywhere. The only thing he's done is replace the cooking grill rack. So he's probably got a $1,000 item?

Yes, you are correct Mako Nagatos family made kamados thru the 50's & 60's- they were japanese kamados In the 70's he started to use the registered name as Imperial Kamado They were identically made The original earthenware that came from Japan & its design makes it the ferrari of the business Well over $1,000.00 Enjoy!

I reciently acquired 2 of what I believe to be Imperial Kamado's. I found them in an estate sale, both for $50. The larger one I believe is the #5, is in the best shape, rusted bands, completely rusted draft door, minor cracks inside. The other has #4 stamped on the dome, is in poor shape, (at first I thought there was no hope in restoration. Missing the chimney, and broken pot at the bottom. I was wondering if it was too far gone to be restored. Is it possible to replace the chimney? glue the pot back together? ect.

Have recently been given an Imperial 18". Has Japanese markings on the lid along with the letter E. Label on lower front says Imperial Kamado and what looks like Noorayaki Pottery. Firstly the fire box is broken and in several pieces, the fire ring is broken in two. Can these be repaired or should they be replaced? If they should be replaced do you know of any companies in Australia that would sell these parts. I live in Sydney.
